GREENWOOD - Lander split their two games on Saturday in the Bearcat/Fleet Invitational. The Bearcats beat Concord 8-0 in five innings in game one before falling to #15 Lincoln Memorial 3-2 in eight innings.
GAME ONE
Neither team could score in the first three innings, but with two outs in the bottom of the fourth, Shannon Antonini single and scored on a triple by Gracie Derrick to give Lander a 1-0 lead. Naya Jones reached on an infield single to score Derrick and make it a 2-0 game.
The Bearcats blew the game open in the fifth. Abbie Behe singled and scored on a home run by Logan Coward to make it 4-0. Barbara Cook singled and advanced to second on a walk by Antonini. A single by Derrick scored both runners and increased the lead to six. An RBI single by Jones and an RBI double by Ellen Allen gave the Bearcats the win.
Derrick led the Bearcats at the plate, going 2-3 with a triple and three RBIs, while Coward was 2-3 with a home run and two runs driven in. Antonini finished 2-2 with two runs scored, and Naya Jones was 2-2 with two RBIs. Bailey Pattison (3-1) picked up the win allowing just one hit and striking out seven in five innings of work.
GAME TWO
Saje Jones lifted a one-out single in the bottom of the first and then scored on a home run to left by Abbie Behe to give Lander the early lead. The Railsplitters would answer in the top of the second with two runs to tie the game. Neither team could plate a run over the next five innings, and the game headed to extra innings. Lincoln Memorial scored a run on a sacrifice fly to take the lead. In the bottom half of the inning, Naya Jones reached first when the Railsplitters tried to get the runner at second, going to third. After Jones stole a second, Lincoln Memorial intentionally walked pinch hitter Emily Allen to load the bases. Pinch hitter Olivia Veidt laced a ball down the third base line, but the third baseman caught the line drive and doubled the runner off first to put the Bearcats down to their last out. Behe then lined a ball into right field, but it was caught to end the game.
Saje Jones was 2-3 with a run scored, while Behe drove in both runs on the home run to lead the Lander offense. Taylor Scott (2-3) took the loss allowing one earned run on seven hits in eight innings of work.
