GREENWOOD - A penalty kick from Bella Gullatta in the 63rd minute broke a 7-7 tie, and Lander would hold on to defeat American International 10-7 in the NIRA Semifinals, advancing to the program's first National Championship birth November 18th on the campus of Harvard University. The Bearcats will take on Davenport for the Division II Championship.
Sami Tripi would score in the eighth minute to give Lander a 5-0 lead, and a conversion by Gullatta would make it 7-0. The Bearcats would keep the Yellow Jackets off the board until the 34th minute, when American International scored and picked up the conversion to tie the game at seven.
The defensive battle continued, with neither team able to score until Bella connected on the penalty kick to give the Bearcats the lead once again. Lander would hold American International scoreless for the final 27 minutes to secure the win and the National Championship birth.
