GREENWOOD – Lander tied the program record for wins in a season as they swept Flagler 3-0 Wednesday night in Peach Belt Conference play.
Trailing Flagler 4-3 early in the first set, the Bearcats would take advantage of back-to-back attack errors to regain the lead 5-4. A block by Olivia Dow and Blondie Penaflor and an ace by Annie Holesinger would put Lander up 7-4. Lander continued to lead until the Saints tied the set at 17. A kill by Dow, a Saint attack error, and a block from Penaflor gave the Bearcats a 20-17 lead and forced Flagler to call a timeout. Lander would go on to take the set 25-22.
Lander would blow by Flagler in the second set 25-15 to take a commanding 2-0 lead.
With the Saints leading 14-13 in the third set, the Bearcats called a timeout. Coming out of the timeout, Lander would tie the score on a kill by Katie Miller. An attack error by Flagler would give Lander the lead once again. Back-to-back kills from Olivia Dow and Miller made the score 17-14, and the Bearcats would go on to win 25-21 to complete the sweep.
Lauren Dow led all players with 33 assists to go with 12 digs. Katie Miller finished the game with 15 kills, while Sophia Schneider had a career-high 17 digs. Patricia Pantoja added 15 digs, while Blondie Penaflor had five blocks, and Christina Aguayo had three aces.
