AIKEN, S.C. – Lander defeated USC Aiken 3-1 Friday evening to sweep the season series from the Pacers and extend their series winning streak to four games.
Trailing the Pacers 10-9 in the first set, the Bearcats would tie the score on a kill by Katie Miller. That would start an 8-0 run by Lander to give them a 17-10 lead, and they would hold on to win the set 25-22.
The Pacers would even things up by winning the second set 25-21 and looked to take control of the match by jumping out to a 3-0 lead in the third set. The Bearcats responded by scoring ten unanswered points to take a 10-3 lead. Lander then scored five of the following six points to make the score 15-4 and cruised to a 25-8 win.
In the fourth set, USC Aiken jumped out to an 8-5 lead. Trailing the Pacers 13-11, A kill by Miller started a 5-0 run that saw Lander take a 16-13 lead. USC Aiken cut the lead to one at 17-16, but the Bearcats answered with five straight points to lead 22-16. Lander held off a late rally by the Pacers, and a kill from Lauren Dow ended the set and match.
Katie Miller and Olivia Dow each had 15 kills to lead all players, while Christina Aguayo added 10. Lauren Dow dished out 43 assists to go with 12 digs. Patricia Pantoja led the Bearcats with 23 digs, while Miller was second with 13. Blondie Benaflor had five blocks to lead Lander.
