HICKORY, N.C. - In a battle of two of the top teams in the Southeast Region, Lander went on the road and swept Lenoir-Rhyne 3-0 Tuesday night in non-conference action.
After the Bears took a 13-12 lead, Lander got a kill from Katie Miller to tie the score at 13. Two attack errors by Lenoir-Rhyne and an ace from Miller would give the Bearcats a 16-13 lead. Lander would score seven of the following ten points to take a commanding 23-16 lead. The Bears would not go down without a fight. With Lander sitting at set point at 24-19, the Bears scored four straight points to make it 24-23, but Miller would get another kill to end the set at 25-23.
Lander jumped on Lenoir-Rhyne early in the second set. A kill by Olivia Dow, a block by Christina Aguayo and Blondie Penaflor, and a kill by Penaflor gave the Bearcats a 20-12 lead. The Bears again battled back and made it a 23-20 deficit, but a kill by Lauren Dow and a block by Annie Holesinger and Lauren finished it off and gave Lander a 2-0 lead.
The Bearcats took the momentum and ran away with the third set, 25-11, to complete the sweep.
Olivia Dow hit an incredible .769 with ten kills to lead the Lander attack, while her sister Lauren Dow dished out a game-high 30 assists and had ten digs for her 13th double-double of the season. Blondie Penaflor led all players with eight blocks, Patricia Pantoja had 12 digs, and Christina Aguayo had 11.
