Bearcats dominate Saturday to finish the weekend 4-0

AIKEN, S.C. - For the second straight day, the Lander volleyball team won both of their matches at the Pacers Invitational and finished the tournament a perfect 4-0 for the first time since 2019. It also extended the Bearcats' winning streak to five, the longest since 2019.

Match One

The Bearcats trailed 6-2 early in the first set, but two Trojan attack errors and a service ace by Halle Michael cut the deficit to one. Later in the match, Mount Olive led 19-14, but a kill by Maya Walker would start a six-point run that gave the Bearcats a one-point lead. Lander outscored the Trojans 5-4.

Mount Olive again took an early lead in the second set, 3-0. The Bearcats would again battle back, and a kill by Katie Miller gave Lander an 11-10 lead. Mount Olive tied the score at 20, but the Bearcats outscored the Trojans 5-3, and a service ace by Ellyn Adams gave Lander the win.

Trailing 1-0, a kill by Walker tied the game, and three-straight aces from Madilyn Reed made it 4-1. Blocks by Walker and Michael and Walker and Miller made the score 6-1. The Bearcats then cruised to a 25-17 win to clinch the match.

Halle Michael and Katie Miller each had eight kills to lead Lander. Miller also finished with 11 digs, while Patricia Pantoja had 10. Madilyn Reed had a game-high 28 assists with four aces, and Pantoja had five aces.
