Sumter, S.C. - Men's tennis had two Bearcats reach the semifinals at the ITA Southeast Regionals that took place on Sept. 23-26.
Hugo Regner had the opportunity to play in both semifinals as he advanced in doubles and singles. During singles competition, Regner advanced to Monday's (Sept. 26) semifinals after defeating Juan Sengariz of Anderson University 6-2, 6-0. He would send North Georgia's Joaquin Benoit to three sets but was defeated 5-7, 6-4, 3-6.
Regner and
Matthew De Groot defeated the five-seeded Flagler duo of Phillip Lemken and Pavlos Parsons 9-7 on Sunday (Sept. 25). They would fall later that day to the two-seeded Columbus State pair of Santiago Perez and Javier Cueto Ramos 2-8. Columbus State went on to win both the doubles and singles championships.
Both performances in the regional quarterfinals have gained consideration for at-large bids at the 2022 ITA Cup in Rome, Ga. on Oct. 13-16. The four at-large bids will be determined by last year's national rankings.
