Bearcats to face Clayton State with a spot in the PBC Finals on the line

GREENWOOD, S.C. -   The second-seeded Lander Bearcats will take on six-seeded Clayton State tomorrow at 3:30 PM in the semifinals of the Peach Belt Tournament. Top seed North Georgia is hosting the semifinals and finals.    

Tickets for the game will be $10 each and can be purchased exclusively online HERE. Admission is free for students with a valid ID from a PBC school and children five and under. Tickets will not be sold at the venue and must be purchased ahead of time. Fans can have their tickets scanned from their phones or print out their tickets.

Lander all-access sports passes and faculty/staff are not valid for free entry into PBC Tournament games.

STORYLINES

  • Lander is coming into the semifinals after dominating Flagler 107-77 in the quarterfinals Wednesday night.
  • Makaila Cange scored a game-high 27 points to lead the Bearcats. Miriam Recarte and Aniaya Jester recorded double-doubles for Lander. Recarte scored 21 points and pulled down a game-high 15 rebounds, while Jesster had 17 points, ten boards, and eight assists.    
  • Clayton State got to the semifinals after upsetting third-seed Georgia Southwestern 62-54 Wednesday night.
  • This is the second time the teams have met this season, with Lander defeating the Lakers 79-68 in January. That win extended the Bearcat's winning streak against Clayton State to 12. 
  • Lander leads the Peach Belt and is second in NCAA Division II in assists per game (18.3). They are also first in the PBC and third in the country in scoring margin (20.4). The Bearcats lead the PBC in assist-turnover ratio (1.09), field-goal percentage (44.7), and scoring offense (80.4). They are also first in assists (458), second in blocked shots per game (4.3), and rebound margin (8.3).
  • Cange currently leads the PBC and is second in the country in field-goal percentage (68.0). She is also first in the conference in points per game (19.5), offensive rebounds per game (4.4), and free throws made (118). She is second in double-doubles (15).
  • Miriam Recarte is first in the conference, is 4th nationally in blocked shots per game (2.96), and is second in the PBC in blocked shots (74).
