Men's lacrosse gets back in action with a road trip to North Greenville on Saturday

GREENWOOD - After a week off, the Lander men's lacrosse team will hit the road and battle North Greenville on Saturday.

STORYLINES

  • The Bearcats rolled over Coker the last time out, winning 21-8 in the process.
  • Quin Ingalls and Adam Mather led the Bearcats in scoring with three goals each while three Bearcats had two goals each.
  • Mather was tied with Nolan Oakey in assists against the Cobras with three and led the team in points with six.
  • 11 different Bearcats caused a turnover against Coker while Blake Moore collected six ground balls. Jake Watson and Moore both won eight faceoffs.
  • The Bearcats have outscored their opponents 94-37 over their five-game winning streak to begin the season.
  • Carter Wilcox leads the team with 15 goals, while Mather is in second with 13 and Drew Wilson is third with 11. Oakey rounds out the list of Bearcats with 10 or more goals so far this season.
  • Mather is the team's leader in assists with 11 and points with 24. He's the only Bearcat so far to record 10 or more assists this season.
  • Liam Mackay has played and started all five games this season for Lander. He currently holds a 5-0 record while making 23 saves in 178 minutes of action. Nicholas Paige, Rhys Peterson and Kaleb Boiter have also seen action in the cage this season.
  • The Bearcats lead the PBC in goals scored, goals per game (18.8) scoring margin (+11.4), point per game (28.8), shot percentage (.384), save percentage (.593), total ground balls (230) and are tied for first in caused turnovers (68).
  • Nationally, Lander ranks 5th in total assists, 7th in assists per game, 3rd in caused turnovers per game, 1st in clearing percentage, 3rd in ground balls, 2nd in ground balls per game, 4th in points and points per game, 9th in scoring defense, 1st in scoring margin and 2nd in scoring offense and shot percentage.
  • This will be the third-ever meeting in men's lacrosse for Lander and North Greenville.
  • Lander came away victorious at Van Taylor Stadium last season. The Bearcats won in a thrilling 11-10 battle with the Crusaders.
  • Three Bearcats had a multi-goal game while Mackay made 14 saves.
  • North Greenville is currently 3-2 on the season.
  • They started the season with a 12-3 victory over PBC foe Young Harris. The Crusaders also have wins against Coker and Embry-Riddle. The two losses this season have come against Lenoir-Rhyne and Anderson, with both contests on the road.
  • The Crusaders have scored 66 goals this season while allowing 52.
  • Hayden Moffat leads the way in goals with 14 this season while Thomas Cecere is second with 11. Kyle Bollman is the leader in assists with seven while Moffat has a team-high 18 points so far this season. 
  • Brady Hope has collected 22 ground balls while Britton Weems and Colin Courtney have both caused seven turnovers.
  • Hope is the primary faceoff man for North Greenville, going 50-of-99 this season.
  • Joe Amici and Garrison Story have split time in goal for North Greenville. Amici has played and started two games while Story has started the other three. 
  • Story is 2-1 on the season, making 33 saves while Amici is 1-1 with 20 saves made.
  • North Greenville battles Montevallo next on Wednesday, March 9 at 4 pm while Lander welcomes Maryville of the GLVC on Tuesday, March 8 for a 1 pm start.
