Men's Lacrosse set to battle Embry-Riddle in Savannah on Saturday

GREENWOOD – After seeing its match against Belmont Abbey postponed due to weather, the Lander men's lacrosse team will battle Embry-Riddle for the first time in program history on Saturday in Savannah, Ga.

STORYLINES

  • The Bearcats are coming off a 15-10 loss to Barton last Saturday.
  • Carter Wilcox led the Bearcats in scoring with four goals against the Bulldogs and in points. Wilcox was also tied for second in ground balls with four. James Linn caused two turnovers to lead Lander in that category.
  • Both Liam Mackay and Nicholas Paige made 10 saves, which the pair splitting the game in half.
  • Both Lander and Embry-Riddle will be looking to stop losing streaks on Saturday. Lander has lost three straight while the Eagles have lost their last two games.
  • The Eagles lost to Lewis on March 13, 15-10 and most recently 10-9 to Maryville on March 15.
  • Lander is outscoring its opponents 130-82 so far this season.
  • Adam Mather and Wilcox are tied for the team lead in goals scored with 23. Mather in assists (16) and points (39).
  • Jake Watson and Caedmon Ferrell are tied for the lead in ground balls with 24 while Blake Moore is close behind with 23.  Linn has caused a team-high 10 turnovers this season while four Bearcats are tied for second with five each. 
  • Mackay has played and started all eight games for the Bearcats. He's 5-2 on the season with 60 saves in 269 minutes of action. Paige has played in seven games and is 0-1 on the season. He's made 42 saves in just under 164 minutes of action.
  • Lander ranks first among PBC schools in goals scored, goal margin, shot percentage, ground balls, total successful clears while being second in caused turnovers and goals allowed.
  • Wilcox and Mather lead the Peach Belt in total goals scored while Mather also leads the conference in assists, total points and points per game.
  • The Eagles come into this contest with a 3-6 overall record. They've picked up wins against Flagler, Montevallo and Emmanuel this season.
  • Embry-Riddle is currently being outscored 103-95 this season.
  • Coleman Jacobs leads the Eagles in goals scored with 24 and points with 33. Marcus Needham is first in assists with 11, Mark Urso leads the team in ground balls and faceoffs won with 41 and 62 respectively. Ryan Manning leads the Eagles in caused turnovers with 12.
  • Lucas Fraser has played and started all nine games for the Eagles this season. He's made 105 saves in 537 minutes of action and holds a 3-6 record this season.
  • Embry-Riddle will travel to Rollins for its next game on March 26 while Lander makes its way to Limestone for its next contest on March 23.
