TAMPA, Fla. – The Lander softball team opened up the 2022 season with a split with Tampa Saturday afternoon. It was the first meeting between the Bearcats and Spartans in Lander softball history. Tampa won game one 1-0 and the Bearcats responded to win game two 3-1.

In a pitchers duel, the lone run came with two outs in the bottom of the fourth. Mariah Galhouse hit a one-out double and then advance to third on a wild pitch. Alexa Russo then singled up the middle to score Galhouse and give Tampa the lead. |

Corynn Miner led off the inning with a walk and advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by Russo. Lexie Chevalier then doubled down the left field line to score Miner and give the Spartans the lead. |

After being held scoreless for 13 innings, the Bearcats saved their best for last. Ka'Naya Jones reached on an error to lead off the inning. After stealing second, Jones advanced to third on a bunt single by Sarjarie Jones. After Sarjarie stole second, Bridgett Tierney grounded out to score Ka'Naya and tie the game at one. Sarjarie then scored on a wild pitch to give the Bearcats the lead. Shannon Antonini doubled to left field and scored on a single by Logan Coward to finish the scoring for Lander. |
