GREENWOOD – Lander won their opening two games of the Brianna Surrento Invitational Friday afternoon. The Bearcats defeated Mars Hill in game one and Erskine in game two.

Mars Hill broke a scoreless tie with an RBI single from Alyssa Christopher to score Zoje Pistel. The Lions added another run when Christopher got in a run down allowing Katie Todd to score. |

Sarjarie Jones led off the inning with a bunt single and advanced to second on a single to center field by Bridget Tierney. Logan Coward lined a one-out double to score both runners and tie the game up at two. Haven Pesce reached on an infield single and advanced to second when Mars Hill failed to get Coward out at third base. Barbara Cook then grounded out to the shortstop, allowing Coward to score and give Lander the lead. |

With two outs, Jones would draw a walk and then steal second. Tierney followed with an infield single and preceded to get into a rundown allowing Jones to score and give the Bearcats an insurance run. |

Liz Gollin retired the Lions in order to secure the win. Gollin came into the game in the top of the fourth and retired all 12 batters she faced. |

Sage Jones reached on an Erskine error to lead off the inning. Brridget Tierney laid down a sacrifice bunt that Erskine threw away, allowing Jones to advance to third. Shannon Antonini then lined a double down the left field line to score both runners and give the Bearcats the lead. |

Abbie Behe led off the inning with a single through the right side. Lauren Collie and Naya Jones hit back-to-back home runs to make it 5-1.Sage Jones singled and advanced on a groundout. She would score on a single by Tierney and then Logan Coward belted the third home run of the inning to make it 9-2. |

Ellison Garren led off the inning with solo home run to cut the Lander lead to 9-2. |

Erskine would score three runs to cut the lead to 9-5 with one, but Olivia Veidt came into the game and retired the final two batters to close the game. |
