CHARLESTON, S.C. - The Lander women's rugby team captured a stellar win on Saturday against The Citadel with a 49-0 victory on the road on Saturday.
By the end of the first half Lander had taken a 24-0 lead and proceeded to score another 25 by the end of the second half while finishing off the second half with 26 more points.Â
The Bearcats were technical with their scoring, using eight trys and five conversion kicks made.
Abbigail Melton and
Bailey Burt finished the match with two trys each.
Stephanie Esmonde,
Sha-Lea Davidson,
Riley Bonds  and
Joanna Mora each recorded a try as well.
Julia Anhalt was on fire when it came to conversions as she made five on the day.
The Bearcats' cohesion and determination dominated the field. The team stood strong on scrums and stole the ball five times against The Citadel during scrums.
The Bearcats return home to face West Chester University for its next test, with the Golden Rams coming to Greenwood on October 15.
