Greenwood, S.C. - Men's and women's tennis hosted the Lander Invitational on October 7-8 at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center. Doubles competition took place on Friday, while single draws were held on Saturday.
Both sides had three flights each in their doubles draws. In women's doubles, three duos reached their semifinals matches. Roberta Armani and Mille Elsborg won 6-4, Sina Albersmeier and Emily Ineson advanced with a 6-2 score, and Rebecca Latty and Catalina Santander blanked their opponents 6-0. The pairs would not advance past the semifinals.
Men's doubles had three pairs advance to the finals in their flights. Matthew De Groot and Hugo Regner advanced with 6-3, 6-4 victories in the Simpson Flight. Mouad Naoui and Emilien Baradel scored 6-4, 6-2 in the Holyoak Flight. The duo of Graeme Simpson and Benajamin Bates were the only Bearcat doubles to win their draw with 6-2, 7-5, 7-5 triumphs in the Texeira Flight.
Saturday's singles battles included over five flights for men's and women's tennis. Albersmeier, Elsborg and Hannah Panchal advanced to their semifinals before dropping their matches in Flight 1, 2 and 4 respectively for women's tennis. In Flight 3, Ineson and Armani won out their brackets. Ineson won the West bracket 6-2, 7-5, while Armani topped the South bracket 6-2, 4-6 [10-6]. Shea Connelly was the victor in the West Finals 2-6, 6-2 [10-5] for Flight 5.
Bearcats were in four of the seven flights for men's tennis. Naoui fell in his final 5-7, 2-6 in the Pristach Flight. There were two finals that weren't completed because they were Lander teammates. Regner and Ambroise Marchand represented the Cabri Flight, while Nicholas Chan and Baradel represented the Persson Flight. Ismail ElShafei defeated his opponent 7-5, 6-0 to win the Pothoff Flight.
