YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. - After falling behind 2-0 on Saturday, Lander stormed back to defeat Young Harris 3-2 in Peach Belt volleyball action.
The Mountain Lions narrowly took the first two sets 25-22 and 25-19. Trailing 5-4 in the third set, Lander scored four unanswered points to take an 8-5 lead. Leading 16-13, the Bearcats outscored Young Harris 9-2 to take the win 25-15.
With Young Harris leading 6-3 in the fourth set, a kill by Halle Michael started a 6-0 run for the Bearcats to give them a 9-6 lead. After the Mountain Lions broke the Lander run, the Bearcats got four straight kills by Christina Aguayo, Katie Miller, and McCayla Willingham to make it 13-7, and the Bearcats went on to the 25-16 win to even the match at two.
Leading 6-5 in the fifth set, the Bearcats scored seven unanswered points to take a commanding 13-5 lead. After Young Harris cut it to 13-7, Lander took advantage of a service ace to set up match point. Aguayo recorded the service ace to end the match and gave Lander the win.
Christina Aguayo led the Bearcats with a game-high 18 kills while picking up 12 digs for a double-double. Katie Miller also had a double-double with 12 kills and 18 digs. Madilyn Reed led all players with 46 assists, while Patricia Pantoja had 23 digs.
