Allon’s Golden Goal Gives Bearcats Overtime Win Over DI Lindenwood

ST CHARLES, MO. - A week after having their hearts broken in a shootout after dominating overtime against Belmont Abbey, the Lander Field Hockey Team found themselves in the same situation against Division I foe, Lindenwood. However, this time the Bearcats were able to convert on their chances as Emma Allon would score the game-winning goal just under four minutes into the second overtime period to give Lander the 1-0 upset win over the Lions.

Lindenwood would dominate the first 60 minutes of action as they would hold a 17-4 shot advantage in regulation but Kelsey Gibbons was up to the task as she would record eight saves on the afternoon to keep the score level at zero.

However, once again, the Bearcats were a force to be reckoned with in overtime as they would completely flip the script with a 9-2 shot advantage over the almost 14 minutes of extra time played. In the second overtime, a Lieke Toma penalty corner would find the stick of Frederique Van Der Houwen who would find Allon for the golden goal and give Lander consecutive victories for the first time in program history.

The Bearcats are back at home on Saturday as they head back into SAC play against the Newberry Wolves. That game is scheduled to start at 1:00 PM at Frank Hill Stadium.
