GREENWOOD - Lander rallied past USC Aiken in the third set to break a 1-1 tie and go on to the 3-1 victory over the Pacers Friday night.
After Aiken scored four-straight points in the first set to take a 12-7 lead, Maya Walker took a pass from Madilyn Reed for a kill to stop the Pacer's run. Three straight kills from Katie Miller and a kill by Annie Holesinger tied the set up at 12. Later in the set, the Bearcats used a 6-0 run to take a 21-17 lead. Aiken cut the lead to one at 22-21, but Lander scored the final three points to take the victory.
With the score tied at 13 in the second set, Aiken scored four-straight points to take the lead. They held on to take a 25-18 win to tie the match at one set apiece.
The Pacers looked to take a 2-1 lead in the third set leading 21-15. The Bearcats would score seven unanswered points, including three service aces by Christina Aguayo, to take a 22-21 lead. The teams traded points, but with the score tied at 25, Lander got a kill by Holesinger and a block by Walker to take the set 27-25 and move one set away from the win.
Aiken jumped out to an 8-3 lead in the fourth set, looking to tie the match. Lander slowly battled back, and a kill by Holesinger and back-to-back kills from Miller gave them the lead 12-11. Later in the set, a kill from Walker gave Lander a 22-16 lead. The Bearcats held off a Pacer rally, and Holesinger's final kill gave Lander the 25-21 win.
Katie Miller and Madilyn Reed each had a double-double to lead the Bearcats. Miller had 20 kills and 13 digs, while Reed dished out a game-high 46 assists to go with 17 digs. Annie Holesinger had a season-high 14 kills, and Patricia Pantoja tied Reed with a game-high 17 digs. Holesinger also led all players with six blocks, while Maya Walker and Christina Aguayo had three.
