Women's basketball heads to North Georgia for a top-15 matchup Saturday

GREENWOOD, S.C. - The third-ranked Bearcats travel to Dahlonega, Ga. to take on thirteenth-ranked North Georgia Saturday at 1:30 pm.

STORYLINES

  • After leading by just four points at halftime Wednesday, the Bearcats outscored USC Aiken 44-29 in the second half to win the 82-63.     
  • Zamiya Passmore scored a season-high 31 points with seven steals and five assists to lead Lander.  
  • Makaila Cangé recorded her second-straight double-double, scoring 17 points and pulling down a game-high 12 rebounds. Amiaya Melvins added 12 points, and Jakiyah Parker scored 10 points.  
  • The Bearcats are taking on North Georgia in a battle of the top two teams in the Peach Belt.   
  • Last season, the Nighthawks handed Lander their first loss of the season in the PBC Championship game, but the Bearcats got their revenge defeating North Georgia 67-48 in the South Region Championship and advancing to the Elite Eight.  
  • Lander leads the Peach Belt and NCAA Division II in assists per game (18.8) and leads the PBC in assist-turnover ratio (1.16), field-goal percentage (47.0), offensive rebounds per game (15.5), and scoring offense (83.3). The Bearcats are also second in the PBC in scoring margin (22.7) and assists (207), blocked shots (47), block shots per game (4.3), and rebound margin (6.1).
  • Cange currently leads the PBC and is fifth in the country in offensive rebounds per game (5.1), first in the conference and sixth in Division II in field-goal percentage (64.3), first in double-doubles (7), and free-throws made (57).  
  • Miriam Recarte leads the Peach Belt and is eighth in the country in blocked shots per game (2.73), and leads the conference and is 9th in blocked shots (30). Zamiya Passmore leads the PBC in scoring (21.6) and is second in assists (61).
  • The Bearcats are dominating down low, averaging 44.9 points in the paint through 11 games.
  • Last time out, North Georgia defeated Georgia Southwestern 75-68 Wednesday.
