SUMTER, S.C. - The Lander men's tennis team competed at the ITA Regional Tournament at the Palmetto Tennis Center this past weekend.
Thomas De Negri went 2-1 in singles play on the weekend. He defeated Connor Evenson from North Georgia in his first match in straight sets. After losing the first set of his second match to Aaron Cabo of Anderson, Thomas won the following sets 6-2 and 6-2 to take the match. De Negri lost his third match to Eduoardo Bottini of Queens in three sets.
Hugo Regner also went 2-1 in singles play for the Bearcats. He defeated Patrik Alvestrand of Lenoir-Rhyne in straight sets and Zach Waldow of North Georgia in three sets. Regner lost his final match of the tournament to Oscar Del Granado.
Matthew De Groot opened up play with a straight-set win over Sean Keane of Coker. He then defeated Leonal Gonzalez of Francis Marion in three sets before falling to Karol Malirz of Georgia College.
Bailey Honre lost to Julian Kenzlers of Anderson and Lincoln Memorial's Thom Hermans in the Consolation Bracket. Alexandre Crepy defeated Rintaro Oka of Carson Newman in straight sets and then lost to Alvaro Regelado of Columbus State.
In doubles play, De Negri and Crepy defeated Hernandez and Hemmings from Lenoir-Rhyne 9-8 and then fell to Lemken and Del Granado from Flagler 8-2. Horne and Matthew De Groot defeated Oka and Dulganov of Carson-Newman 8-3 before falling to Garay and Steen from Columbus State. Regner and Ludvig Danielsson won their first match 8-1 over Winter/Macmillian of Coker and then lost 8-3 to Brainard and Ostap of North Georgia.
