Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander men's lacrosse team held Shorter to just two goals in each half and cruised to a 14-4 PBC win on Saturday night at Van Taylor Stadium.
Lander (5-2) stormed out to an early lead on goals from Quinn Ingalls, Carter Clark, and Krew Conroy to take a 3-0 advantage less than four minutes into the contest. Two more goals from Clark and Adam Mather gave the Bearcats a 5-1 lead at the end of the first quarter. After allowing the Hawks to score the first goal of the second period, Lander closed on a 4-0 run with goals from Ingalls, Conroy, Robert Ramirez, and Chance Hainey. to take a 9-2 lead into halftime.
Shorter (2-6) netted the first two goals of the second half before Drew Wilson slotted a shot past the Hawk goalkeeper to put the Bearcats ahead 10-4 entering the fourth quarter. Lander put the game out of reach in the final period with four goals from Clark, Nolan Oakey, Carson Theriault, and Owen Ciali, while keeping the Hawks off the scoreboard.
Clark led the offensive attack with three goals, while Mather added three assists. Lander held a 41-29 advantaged in ground balls and forced 30 Hawk turnovers.
Lander returns to action next Saturday as the Bearcats play host to Montevallo at 1:00 p.m.
