Box Score GREENWOOD – The Lander men's lacrosse team battled against the North Greenville Crusaders to win 11-10 at Van Taylor Stadium on Wednesday.
The Bearcats advance to 2-0 on the season while North Greenville drops to 0-4 overall.
Sophomore Carson Theriault, freshman Alex Ellis and sophomore Drew Wilson led the team in goals scored with two each.
Lander took the initial lead off a goal from sophomore Caedmon Ferrell with 8:21 remaining in the first period. The Crusaders would respond with two goals of their own to take a slim 2-1 edge into the second period.
North Greenville struck first in the second with 10:46 remaining to make it 3-1 for the time being. Two unassisted goals from Ellis and sophomore Adam Mather at 9:23 and 8:42 made it a tied contest. The Crusaders however would strike one more time with 6:54 remaining to take a 4-3 advantage into the half.
Lander began the third with three unanswered goals, with Ellis scoring his second of the game and Theriault scoring two goals within 35 seconds of each other to give Lander a 6-4 edge with 13:05 left. North Greenville found the back of the cage with 9:33 remaining before sophomore Tyler Kralj and Wilson scored with 8:45 and 1:26 remaining to up the Bearcats' advantage to 8-5.
Sophomore Quinn Ingalls made it 9-5 just 34 seconds into the fourth before the Crusaders' offense turned back on with three consecutive goals to make it a 9-8 contest with 6:52 remaining. The two squads would trade goals for the rest of the game, as Wilson notched his second of the game and sophomore Eli Copeland scored his first goal of the season.
Sophomore Liam Mackay made 14 saves as he earned his second win of the season.
The Bearcats hit the road for the first time this season with a trip to Barton on March 1.
