GREENWOOD – The Lander wrestling team is set to compete in its first dual meet of the season when it welcomes Mount Olive to Horne Arena on November 16.

STORYLINES
- Lander has taken part in two opens this season, with wrestlers competing at the UNC Pembroke Open and Georgia Open.
- The Bearcats have seen four wrestlers claim first at the two previous opens. Zeth Bower, Gage Bernall and Jack Bond all took first place at the UNC Pembroke Open while Elijah Lusk took first at the Georgia Open.
- This will be the first dual meet of the season for the Bearcats.
- Lander is coming off a 7-4 2020-21 season that saw them almost claim its first SACC regular-season title. Lander went 6-2 in the SACC last season that featured a win over Mount Olive.
- The Bearcats came back from Mount Olive victorious with a 29-12 win over the Trojans last season.
- Kaiden Fisher, Jauquin Olivas, Gavin Brady, Bond, Darius Parker and Cameron Coffman all recorded wins.
- Mount Olive went 3-5 last season.
- Colby Teague represented the Trojans at the NCAA Div. II Championships last year.
- Mount Olive is currently 1-0 this season.
- They came away with a 22-21 win at Queens (N.C.) on November 10.
- Down 21-13, Mount Olive used a pin and a win by decision from their final two wrestlers to pick up the needed nine points and come away with the victory.
- The Bearcats are set to compete in the Life University Open next on November 20 before taking on Emmanuel College for their next dual meet on Dec. 1.
