MOUNT OLIVE, N.C. – The Lander wrestling team earned its fifth win of the season as it took down Mount Olive 29-12 on Sunday.
The Bearcats are now 5-2 overall and 4-1 in the SACC. Mount Olive drops to 0-3 overall and in the SACC.
Lander kicked things off with a tech fall courtesy of freshman Kaiden Fisher to go up 5-0. Fisher is now 2-1 at the 125-weight class.
The Bearcats wouldn't earn any points until the 157-weight class as senior Jauquin Olivas earned his third major decision of the season to even things up 9-9. Freshman Gavin Brady followed things up with a decision to give the Bearcats a 12-9 advantage. Brady is now 2-0, winning his first two matches at the 165-weight class.
Redshirt sophomore Jack Bond helped up the ante, as he earned Lander's second tech fall to make it 17-9. Mount Olive would take the next one to get within five, but back-to-back pins from sophomore Darius Parker and redshirt sophomore Cameron Coffman shut the door on a Trojan comeback.
Lander is on the road once more for its next meet, as the Blue and Gold travel to UNC Pembroke on February 11.
