BELTON, S.C. - The Lander men's tennis team competed at the South Carolina Collegiate Championships this past weekend.
Hugo Regner went 2-1 on the weekend for the Bearcats. In his first match, Hugo defeated Pedro Cardoso of Presbyterian College 3-6, 7-6, 6-1. In his second match, Regner beat Mateo Bival of Newberry 6-1, 6-1. He lost his weekend's final match to Elijah Poritzky of Furman 6-1, 7-6.
Alexandre Crepy also went 2-1 on the weekend in singles play. He defeated David Velasco of North Greenville 6-7, 6-4, 6-1 in his first match of the weekend. He followed that up with a straight-set victory over Furman's Connor Layman 6-3, 6-4. In his final match, Alexandre fell to Georgije Babic of Presbyterian College 6-3, 7-6.
After losing his first match of the weekend to Elijah Poritzky of Furman, Bailey Horne won his next two matches. Horne defeated Heimanaril Lai San of Anderson 6-0, 6-3, and then to wrap up the weekend, he defeated Pedro Cardoso 6-1, 7-5.
Like Horne, Matthew De Groot won his final two matches after falling to Juan Sengarizof Anderson in his opener. De Groot defeated his teammate Mouad Naoui 6-2, 6-0 and David Velasco of North Greenville 6-2, 3-6, 6-2.
Before losing to De Groot, Naoui fell to Georgie Babic of Presbyterian 6-2, 6-2. In his final match of the weekend, Mouad defeated Barthemely Bourdon 6-4, retired.
Emilien Baradel finished the weekend with a 2-1 record for Lander. He opened up play with a 7-6, 7-5 victory over Emilio Samhan of Limestone. Emilien then lost to Thomas Pudney of Anderson 7-5, 6-4. He wrapped up the weekend with a straight-set victory over Julius Pereira of Limestone.
Jack Coleman went 1-1 on the weekend. He defeated Sebastian Rogerson of Limestone 6-4, 7-5 and lost to Tuur Vos of North Greenville 6-0, 6-2. Joshua Gwynne lost to Leonardo Zancheta of Newberry 6-7, 6-2, 7-5 and Andre Zamorano of Limestone 6-3, 6-1.
In doubles play, De Groot and Horne went 2-1 on the weekend. The duo defeated Schomburg and Anatapolou of Newberry 6-3. They followed that up with a win against Poritzky and Layman of Furman 6-0. They lost their final match 6-1 to Babic and Matos of Presbyterian.
Thomas De Negri and Crepy also went 2-1. They defeated Cronin and Snow from Anderson 6-2 and Presbyterian's Cardoso and Cariov 6-2. In their final match, they lost to Singerman and Burnam from Furman 6-2.
Baradel and Gwynne finished the weekend with a record of 1-2. They lost their first two matches to Samhan and Yanine of Limestone and Bellett and Queguiner of Converse. The team rebounded to defeat Snow and Cronin of Anderson 6-4. Coleman and William King lost to Paladines and Koehler of North Greenville and Cssini and Alvarez of North Greenville.
