First-place Saints hold off Bearcats



GREENWOOD, S.C. - First-place Flagler defeated Lander 3-1 Friday night in Peach Belt Conference volleyball action.

MATCH REPLAY
SET 1 I 27-25 The Bearcats jumped out to an early 6-2 lead, forcing the Saints to call a timeout.  Lander continued to hold onto the lead for the first half of the set.  Flagler battled back and eventually tied the set at 16.  The teams traded points, with Lander not being able to pull away.  With the score tied at 25,   service error and attack error by the Saints would end the set and give the Bearcats the win and handed the Saints their first set loss since October 9th.  
SET 2 I 15-25 Trailing 9-5, Lander would call a timeout to regroup.  The Bearcats came out of the time out and scored three-straight points to make it a one-point deficit.  However, Flagler then outscored Lander 10-5 to take a 19-13 lead.  The Saints held on to take the set and tie the match at one. 
SET 3 I 18-25 Again, the Saints jumped out to an early lead, forcing the Bearcats to take a time out with the score 10-5.  Lander came out of the timeout and fought back to take a 16-15 lead after tying the set at 13.  Flagler finished the set on a 10-2 run to take the 2-1 lead in the match. 
SET 4 I 16-25 The two teams battled back and forth to start the set.  With the score 8-8, Flagler went on a run to make the score 14-8.  Trailing 21-11, Lander would give up, going on a 5-1 run to make it a 22-16 score.  The Saints scored the final three points of the set to take the victory.

UP NEXT
Lander will hit the road on November 2nd as they travel to Georgia to take on Young Harris at 6:00 PM.  The Bearcats defeated the Mountain Lions 3-0 earlier this season.
