Bearcats finish the fall on high note

GREENWOOD, S.C. - After rain pushed back the start of the Lander Invitational tennis tournament, the men's team had a strong showing, winning three out of five of the doubles flights and two teams finishing second.  

Singles

In the Nilsson Flight, Alexandre Crepy won his first match against Jesus Villamizar of Georgia College 6-4, 7-5. He then defeated Pedro Cardoso of Presbyterian College to advance to the championship. In his opening match, teammate Bailey Horne defeated Jorge Robinson of Georgia College 6-3, 3-6, 10-5. He followed that up with a 5-7, 7-5, 11-9 victory over Presbyterian's Georgije Babic to advance to the championship to face Crepy. Alexandre would take the flight championship after Horne had to withdraw due to an injury.   

In the Persson Flight, Ludvig Danielsson lost his first match to Teodor Cariov 6-3, 6-2. He then fell to Aurelien Arlot of Georgia College 7-6, 0-6, 10-2. Danielsson rebounded to win his tournament's final match, defeating Tanguy Calicis of Augusta University 7-6, 6-1.  Matthew De Groot advanced to the championship match of the flight.  He won his first match against Tanguy Calicis of Augusta 6-3, 7-6 and his second match Daniel Martens of Presbyterian College 6-1, 7-5.  De Groot lost to Cariov in the championship 3-6, 7-5, 10-4.

In the Pristach Flight, Jack Colman won his opening match 6-7, 6-2, 10-3 over Georgia College's Ben Grunert 6-7, 6-2, 10-3. He then defeated Vance Mercer of Presbyterian 3-6, 6-2, 10-6 to advance to the championship. Coleman then lost to Jack Sorel of Georgia College 6-3, 6-4 to finish second.  

William King had a first-round bye in the flight; then he lost to Sorell 6-2, 6-0. In his final match, he fell to Mercer 6-3, 6-3. Joshua Gwynne lost his first match 6-2, 6-2 to Mercer. After losing the first set of his second match, Gwynne had to retire due to an injury.  

Thomas De Negri beat Masumi Komada of Georgia College 6-3, 3-6, 12-10 in the first round in the Cabri Flight. He then defeated Lucas Bolle of Augusta 3-6, 7-6, 11-9 to advance to the championship. De Negri lost to Presbyterian College's Javier Matos to finish second. In his opening match, Hugo Regner lost to Matos 7-5, 6-3 and then fell to Enzo Sergi of Georgia College 6-4, 0-6, 10-8.

Doubles

In the Holyoak Flight, Horne and Matthew De Groot finished in second place. The team defeated Komada/Arlot of Georgia College 7-5. They then fell to Babic/Matos of Presbyterian 7-5 before defeating Bolle/Isago of Augusta 7-5.  

Regner and Markus Sorensen swept through their flight to finish in first place. In round one, they beat Cardoso/Cariov of Presbyterian College 6-1. They then defeated Sergi/Surel of Georgia College 6-4 and Davydovskiy/Rubio of Augusta 7-5 in the championship match.  

In the Teixeira Flight, Crepy and De Negri finished 3-0 to win the flight. They defeated Dominguez/Martens of Presbyterian 6-3. They advanced to the championship after Augusta's Perez/Quereda had to withdraw due to an injury. In the championship match, they defeated Robinson/Zavrel of Georgia College 6-3.  

Danielsson and Emilien Baradel finished 3-0 to win the Pothoff Flight. They defeated Grunert/Villamizar of Georgia College 6-3 in their opening match. Then they defeated their teammates Jack Coleman and William King 6-3. Finally, they defeated Calicis/Mercer of Augusta 6-0.  

Coleman and King's loss to Danielsson and Baradel was their only loss of the flight, as they finished second. They defeated Grunert/Villamizar 7-5 and Calicis/Mercer 6-4.
