Box Score GREENWOOD – The No. 23-ranked Lander women's basketball team got a combined 41 points from Zamiya Passmore and Jessica Harris and cruised to an 81-54 Homecoming victory over Francis Marion in front of 1,102 fans Saturday afternoon at Horne Arena.
The Bearcats improved to 22-4 overall with the Senior Day victory while improving to 17-1 in the Peach Belt Conference.
Lander swept the season series from the Patriots, who fell to 12-12 overall and 8-10 in the league.
"You've got to give credit, we had a great Homecoming crowd," said head coach Kevin Pederson. "I thought that really got our kids going."
The Bearcats entered the game ranked 12th nationally in scoring, averaging 80.8 points per game and were right on that scoring target Saturday.
On a day when seniors Harris and Tabitha Dailey were honored before their final regular season home game, freshman Passmore led the way with 23 points on nine of 13 shooting from the floor.
Harris also had a big day, scoring 18 points on seven of 11 shooting. Dailey added 11 points while Aniaya Jester was next with eight points.
Makaila Cange paced the Bearcats with 12 rebounds.
Kiana Adderton led the Patriots with 17 points while Zaria Woods was the game's top rebounder with 13.
Lander made 24 of 40 shots (60 percent) through the first three quarters and finished 32 of 60 (53 percent).
Francis Marion was held under 40 percent shooting, scored only 20 points in the second half, and committed 28 turnovers to just 13 for the Bearcats.
Harris scored 10 points in the first quarter as Lander forced 11 turnovers and led 25-16 going into the second period.
Amiaya Melvins ended a Bearcat scoring drought of almost four minutes by making a floater in the lane, giving the hosts a 33-22 lead with 4:53 left in the half.
Passmore closed the half with seven points in the last 3:34 and Lander led 44-34 at the break. The Bearcats were 17 of 29 (59 percent) from the floor in the first half including Passmore's six of nine.
Adderton's basket pulled Francis Marion within 44-37 early in the third. But Lander ran off 11 unanswered points for a 55-37 lead as Harris scored three times and Dailey added a three-point play.
The Bearcats led 61-44 going into the final quarter.
Passmore hit a bank shot in the lane and then went coast to coast for a basket, drew the foul and converted the three-point play, giving Lander a 68-46 lead with 7:13 to go.
Passmore's steal and layup followed by a Sarah Crews 3-pointer increased the Bearcat advantage to 75-48 inside the five-minute mark.
Cange's long pinpoint pass to Dailey led to a driving layup for the senior, increasing Lander's lead to 79-52 with 2:05 left.
Walk-on Abbriana Washington collected a steal, was fouled when she attempted a layup, and made both free throws with 24 seconds left for the final Bearcat points of the game.
