Bearcats finish tied for 10th at Newberry Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. - The Lander men's golf team opened the spring season with a tied for 10th finish at the Newberry Invitational held at The Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort.

Maxime Legros led the Bearcats as he finished tied for 10th. After shooting a 76 in the first round, the Dinard, France native shot one-over-par 73 in the second round. He shot an impressive three-under-par 69 in the third round to finish with an overall score of two-over-par, 218.

Chris Fortenberry was next for the Bearcats as he finished tied for 31st. The Myrtle Beach, S.C. native, shot a 72 on Tuesday to finish with a three-day score of ten-over-par, 226.

Valentin Peugnet finished eight shots back of Fortenberry in a tie for 55th place. Peugnet shot a 76 on Tuesday to finish the tournament with a score of eighteen-over-par, 234.

Jon Parker finished in a tie for 58th place. The Lander senior shot a 76 and 81 in the final two rounds of the tournament to finish with a score of nineteen-over-par, 235.

Conor Cull rounded out the Lander lineup in 67th place. The London, England native finished with a scorecard of 76-86-79 for a total of 241.

The Bearcats returns to action Monday, Feb. 24, when it competes in the Hurricane Invitational hosted by Georgia Southwestern at the Double Gate Country Club in Albany, Ga.
