No. 8 men's tennis holds off Augusta for road PBC win

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 8-ranked Lander men's tennis team earned a hard-fought 4-3 win over Augusta on Friday afternoon, extending its winning streak to six consecutive matches. 

Lander (11-2, 3-0 PBC) grabbed an early 1-0 lead after taking the doubles point. The Bearcats took court three after a 6-4 win by Ozan Cildir and Omar El-MoslemanyAxel Cronje and Adam Elliget sealed the point with a 6-1 win at No. 1, followed by a 7-6 victory for Eirik Groner and Gabriel Couto at the No. 3 spot. 

Augusta (7-7, 1-5 PBC) started singles off with a win, but Lander responded with three straight points to clinch the match. Cildir knotted the score by winning 7-5, 6-2 on court two. Following a Jaguar retirement at No. 1 that put Lander up 3-1, Groner finished the job with a 6-4, 7-5 win at the No. 4 spot. Augusta won the day's final two points to make the score 4-3. 

Lander is back at home Tuesday as they host in-state rival USC Aiken at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
