CENTRAL, S.C. – The No. 5-ranked Lander men's tennis team opened the season with a 7-0 sweep of Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday afternoon.
Philippe Courteau and Gabriel Couto led the way for the Bearcats. Courteau paired with Adam Elliget at No. 1 doubles for a 6-1 win, then won his No. 5 singles match 6-0, 6-3 over Ben Smith. Couto dispatched Joseph Olatunji at No. 3 singles, 6-1, 6-2.
Omar El-Moslemany and Ozan Cildir blanked Olatunji and Sarvesh Maria at No. 2 doubles, 6-0.
The Bearcats head to Florence this weekend for the City of Florence Invitational.
