Lander finishes 12th at Newberry Invitational

KIAWAH ISLAND, S.C. – The Lander men's golf team finished its first tournament of the spring Tuesday, grabbing 12th at the Newberry Invitational. 

The team shot a combined 919 as the 18-team field battle temperatures in the low 50s and winds of up to 30 miles per hour. Young Harris claimed the tournament title with a combined score of 896, while Joel Sylven of Missouri - St. Louis finished with an even 216 to earn medal honors. 

Roberto Garagorri placed in a tie for 23rd with a 228 total, collecting a team-high nine birdies for the tournament. Maxime Legros finished one stroke back for a share of 28th. Rahul Ajay tied for 32nd, Conor Cull earned a tie for 73rd, and Jon Parker finished in a tie for 81st. 

The Bearcats travel to Albany, Ga., next week for the Hurricane Invitational.
