Lander unable to catch Columbus State in 63-57 loss

COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Lander women's basketball team saw its nine-game winning streak come to an end on Saturday afternoon as Columbus State posted a 63-57 victory over the Bearcats. 

Lander (18-6, 15-3 PBC) remains in first place in the Peach Belt Conference standings, leading North Georgia by a half-game. Columbus State (12-10, 9-9 PBC) sits in a tie for fifth with USC Aiken. 

In a game that featured nine ties and eight lead changes, the Cougars built a 10-point lead in the closing seconds of the third quarter. Lander cut the deficit to two on four different occasions in the fourth quarter, but could never pull even. 

The Bearcats forced 16 cougar miscues, but controlled the interior with a 53-43 edge on the glaass and a 24-14 advantage on points in the paint. 

Mylea McKenith led all scorers with 22 points, while Jessica Harris totaled 13 points and four steals. Sarah Crews finished 11 points and eight rebounds. 

Lander is back in action Monday as the Bearcats head to Georgia Southwestern.
