Box Score COLUMBUS, GA. - The Lander women's basketball team used a strong second half offensively to down the Columbus State Cougars, 92-78, Saturday afternoon inside the Frank G. Lumpkin Center. The Bearcats outscored the Cougars 56-45 in the second half to move them to 7-3 overall and 2-0 in conference play.
Jessica Harris led the Bearcats with 31 points, 10 rebounds, four assists, and five steals. It is a season-high in points and the first time this season that she has recorded a double-double.
Quin'De'Ja Hamilton scored 16 points on 4-8 shooting from three-point range. Zamiya Passmore added 14 points, seven steals, six assists, and three rebounds for the game.
The Bearcats dished out 22 assists, which is their second-most total this season.
It was a back and forth game throughout the first quarter as the Bearcats had a slim 10-8 lead after the first ten minutes. The second quarter was more of the same as both teams would not let each other take a sizable lead. The Bearcats would use an 8-4 run at the end of the half to take a 36-33 lead into the break.
Coming out of the break, both teams would continue to battle back and forth, but Lander would use a couple of three-pointers to stay ahead 59-51 heading into the final 10 minutes of the game. The fourth quarter would turn into a shootout as the Bearcats would outscore the Cougars 33-27 to close the game out.
Lander returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 4, when it plays at Georgia Southwestern. The game is scheduled to start at 1:30 pm.
