Box Score YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lander women's basketball used 20 points from Jessica Harris and a double-double from Tabitha Dailey to defeat Young Harris, 71-57, in the Peach Belt Conference opener for both teams on Saturday afternoon.
Lander (6-3, 1-0 PBC) got off to a fast start as Harris and Dailey netted 10 of the Bearcats' first 15 points as Lander built a 15-4 lead in the first 7:03 of play. Young Harris (5-3, 0-1 PBC) cut the lead to seven late in the second quarter, but an 8-3 run highlighted by a Harris three-pointer put the Bearcats up 12 heading into halftime. Harris scored 13 of her 20 points in the second quarter.
The Bearcats kept the Mountain Lions at arm's length the rest of the way. Zamiya Passmore and Aniaya Jester scored 16 of Lander's 20 points in the fourth quarter on 7-for-7 shooting from the field as the Bearcats built a 22-lead midway through the final period. Six unanswered points from Young Harris in the final 80 seconds trimmed the deficit from 20 to 14 as Lander earned its eighth win in a row over the Mountain Lions. The victory also marked Lander's sixth consecutive win in a PBC opener.
Harris finished with 20 points, eight rebounds, and six steals, while Dailey tallied 14 points and tied a career-high with 15 rebounds. Passmore notched 15 points and a team-high seven assists.
The Bearcats face Columbus State on the road Saturday. Tip is set for 1:30 p.m.
