MORROW, Ga. – The Lander women's basketball team built a 24-point lead early in the fourth quarter, then held off a Clayton State rally to notch an 89-81 road win over the Lakers on Saturday afternoon. 

Lander (5-3) never trailed, breaking open an 18-17 lead with a 29-16 run to take a 14-point lead into halftime. The Bearcats continued to extend the lead and a pair of Jessica Harris free throws gave Lander a 74-50 lead over the Lakers (4-4) with 9:27 to go.

From there, Clayton State would score 25 of the game's next 33 points, cutting Lander's lead to 82-75. The Bearcats iced the game by going 4-of-5 from the free-throw line over the final 90 seconds of action. 

Tabitha Dailey led Lander with 24 points and 11 rebounds. Dailey was seconded by Zamiya Passmore, who dropped 20 points and dished seven assists. Amiaya Melvins recorded 13 points off the bench, while Harris logged 12 points. 

The victory marked Lander's ninth consecutive win over the Lakers. Saturday's game was classified as a non-conference contest. 

Lander will battle Young Harris in a road test on Thursday at 12:00 p.m.
