No. 4 Lander defeats No. 7 Flagler to advance to PBC Tournament championship

FLORENCE, S.C. – The No. 4-ranked and second-seeded Lander men's tennis team notched its 15th consecutive win on Saturday as the Bearcats topped No. 7-ranked and third-seeded Flagler 5-3 in the Peach Belt Tournament semifinals at the Dr. Eddie Floyd/Florence Tennis Center.

Lander (20-2) picked up its second win of the season over Flagler (18-7) and will face No. 3-ranked and top-seeded Columbus State in the championship match on Sunday at 1:00 p.m.

The Bearcats took the first point of the day as David Korsten and Alexander Regner upset the No. 8 duo of Lukas Storck and Konstantin Dustmann, 8-5. After Flagler picked up a point at No. 2  doubles, Lander reclaimed the lead with an 8-6 win at No. 3 from Phillipe Courteau and Gabriel Couto

Axel Cronje put the Bearcats up 3-1 as he opened singles play with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 4 spot. Flagler answered with wins at No. 3 and 5 to tie the match, but Ozan Cildir fought his way to a 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 victory to put Lander ahead 4-3. Needing one more point to move on to the championship, Omar El-Moslemany rallied from a first-set defeat to clinch his second match in as many days with a 3-6, 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 6.

Lander will be looking for its 12th PBC Tournament championship on Sunday and its first since 2002.
