No. 8 Bearcats knock off No. 9 Flagler, 5-4

GREENWOOD – The No. 8-ranked Lander men's tennis team picked up a decisive singles point from David Korsten at the No. 2 spot to break a 4-4 tie and give the Bearcats a win over No. 9 Flagler on Sunday afternoon at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.

Lander (12-2, 5-1 PBC) earned its second win of the month over a top-10 opponents and snapped Flagler's (13-4, 5-1 PBC) eight-match winning streak. The Bearcats are currently the hottest team in the conference, having won seven consecutive matches.

Wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 doubles spots gave Lander a 2-1 advantage entering singles play. Flagler took points at No. 4, 5 and 6 and were threatening to take the match as Korsten dropped the first set in the No. 2 contest. The senior rallied for the Bearcats, taking the second set 6-3 and sealing the match with a 6-4 win in the third set.
