AUGUSTA, Ga. – The No. 8-ranked Lander men's tennis team used a gutsy doubles win to take control of Friday's PBC match against Augusta, notching a 7-2 victory over the Jaguars.
Lander (11-2, 4-1 PBC) picked up a huge point from Phillippe Courteau and Gabriel Couto at No. 2 doubles, edging the Jaguars (6-9, 1-5 PBC) 9-8 to help give the Bearcats a 2-1 advantage entering singles play. From there, Lander pulled away with five singles points, including a 6-1, 6-0 effort from Eirik Groner at the No. 2 spot.
The Bearcats return to action Sunday with a top-10 battle against Flagler at 1:00 p.m. at the Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
