YOUNG HARRIS, Ga. – The Lander women's basketball team used a 22-9 third quarter run, capped by 11 consecutive points from Jessica Harris, to pull away from Young Harris for an 85-66 road win on Thursday night. 

Lander (5-4, 2-1 PBC) scored 53 second-half points to run its winning streak to six consecutive games over Young Harris (2-6, 0-2 PBC). 

Harris led a quartet of Bearcats with a career-high 26 points, including 18 in the second half, while also grabbing a team-high eight rebounds. Mylea McKenith added 16, Sarah Crews netted a career-high 11, and Tabitha Dailey finished with 10. McKenith handed out four assists, while Harris, Crews and Symone Starks each recorded five steals. Lander's defense forced 40 Mountain Lion turnovers on the night. 

Lander ran out to a 10-2 lead before Young Harris cut the lead to 15-12 early in the second quarter. The Mountain Lions took their lone lead of the game with eight seconds left in the first half before Amiaya Melvins sank a pair of free throws with one second remaining to give the Bearcats a 32-31 lead at intermission. 

The game-sealing run from Lander came at the start of the third quarter, as the Bearcats scored 22 of the quarter's first 31 points. Leading by 10 entering the final period, Lander's backcourt took over as Harris and McKenith combined for 11 points in a 14-0 Bearcat run to open the fourth quarter. 

Lander finished the game shooting 36.1 percent from the field and went 20-of-25 from the free-throw line in the second half. The Bearcats converted 40 Young Harris urnovers into 38 points. 

The Bearcats return to the court on Dec. 19 with a road game against Clayton State, Lander's final game of 2018.
