Box Score PEMBROKE, N.C. – Jonissa Monley scored 26 points and two UNC Pembroke players recorded double-doubles as the Braves edged Lander 63-60 in a Peach Belt Conference battle on Wednesday night.
Lander falls to 10-5 overall and 4-3 in the PBC, while UNCP moves to 12-4, (7-2).
Mylea McKenith netted 19 points for the Bearcats, while Destinee Langford scored 14 and Ty'Hesha Reynolds chipped in 10. Breshay Johnson finished with eight point and 12 rebounds.
For UNC Pembroke, Monley led the way with 26 points and 12 rebounds, while Nyla Allen added 10 points and 14 rebounds.
Lander connected on 21-of-73 field goals for 28.8 percent, including 9-of-42 threes for 21.4 percent. The Bearcats also made 9-of-15 free throws for 60 percent.
The Braves made 20-of-44 floor shots for 45.5 percent, including 4-of-17 threes for 23.5 percent. UNC Pembroke sank 19-of-22 free throws for 86.4 percent.
UNCP, which trailed 35-30 at halftime, outrebounded the Bearcats, 45-36.
The Bearcats led by six midway through the third quarter and entered the fourth quarter tied at 52-52. However, Lander shot 1-of-17 over the final nine minutes as UNC Pembroke took a 60-57 lead with 1:41 remaining. After the Bearcats trimmed the deficit to 60-59 on a pair of Johnson free throws, UNCP's Ebone Stevens knocked down a three from the left wing with 22 seconds to play to put the game away.
Lander will next host Armstrong State at 1:30 p.m., on Saturday, Jan. 21 in Horne Arena.
