Box Score MISENHEIMER, N.C. – The Lander men's soccer team dropped its season opener Thursday night as the Bearcats fell to defending national champion Pfeiffer, 4-1, in a non-conference game.
Pfeiffer moves to 1-0, while Lander moves to 0-1.
The Bearcats fell behind at 21:31 as Jaime Siaj netted the first goal of the night. Juan Sanchez followed up with a goal at 24:13 to give Pfeiffer a 2-0 lead heading into halftime.
The deficit grew to 3-0 on a Santi Moar goal at 50:06 before the Bearcats finally got on the board, courtesy of a Conor Felstead goal at 61:19.
Moar's second goal of the night, at 85:35, finished the scoring.
Pfeiffer outshot Lander, 21-16, on the night.
Lander goalkeeper Dean Cowdroy recorded eight saves, while Pfeiffer's Tomas Correa had one.
The Bearcats will host Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 4, in their home opener at Van Taylor Stadium.
