Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lander and Belmont Abbey draw, 0-0

GREENWOOD – Hoping for a bounce back effort following Saturday's season opener, the Lander men's soccer team played to a scoreless draw on Wednesday night in its home opener versus Belmont Abbey.

It was an even match as the shots read 12-8 Lander. The Bearcats (0-1-1) held a 4-2 advantage in shots on goal over the Crusaders (1-0-2). BAC produced six corner-kicks to LU's four.

Orran Mushet narrowly missed putting Lander ahead early in the second minute with a shot that struck the left post. Vidar Rydell had the next best chance in the 28th minute after Felipe Costa set him up perfectly with a heel pass in the box. Rydell's shot was pushed aside by Jackson Bennett.

In the early goings of the second half, Mushet turned the Crusaders over and sent one ahead to a sprinting Costa up the left side of the pitch. Bennett came up to challenge him, stopped the shot with his left foot and gathered it impressively. Omar Erwa later found Mushet on a run in the 74th minute. Mushet crossed it to Carson Graves on the doorstep but Graves couldn't get a clean shot off.

Goalkeeper James Docherty stopped two shots in 90 minutes. That included a noteworthy diving save in the 54th minute on a rebound chance after a Crusaders' corner.

LU will try for its first win this Saturday, Sept. 5 when it faces North Greenville at 7:30 p.m. at Van Taylor Stadium. NGU has dropped each of its first two contests to begin the season.
