GREENWOOD – Scoring opportunities were hard to come by on Wednesday night for the Lander men's soccer team as they fell 2-1 to visiting Middle Georgia at Van Taylor Stadium.
The Bearcats (4-5-4, 3-3-3 PBC) had one shot on goal during the match and 12 shots in all. The Knights (5-7-3, 3-4-2 PBC) didn't fare much better, putting two on net and tallying 13 shots total.
Down 2-0 late in the first half,
Dylan Colley nearly put one in after the ball was battered around on a corner kick before the first-half horn sounded, but it found the crossbar.
A bit of good fortune came LU's way in the 65th minute when
Orran Mushet was tripped in the box to necessitate a penalty kick. He buried it to the bottom-right corner to make it a one-goal match.
Lander couldn't generate a clean look over the final 25 minutes and was dealt the defeat.
The Bearcats will have a week between games with their next outing coming Wednesday, Oct. 21 at USCA in a 6 p.m. kick-off.
