SAVANNAH, Ga. - The No. 5 Lander men's tennis team suffered its first Peach Belt Conference loss of the season Tuesday when the Bearcats fell to No. 3 Armstrong State, 5-4, at Bacon Park.
Armstrong improves to 6-1 overall and 2-0 in the PBC, while Lander moves to 8-2, 5-1.
In singles, No. 1 Pablo Gor (A) def. Chris Devoize (L) 6-4, 6-4; No. 2 Marc Hofer (L), the No. 42-ranked singles player, upset No. 29 Otakar Lucak (A) 2-6, 7-5, 7-5; No. 3 Loic Minery (L) , ranked No. 34, def. Luca Cerin (A) 7-5, 6-3; No. 4 Ignacio Hernandez (A) def. David Korsten (L) 6-1, 7-6; No. 5 Jan Porteset (A) def. Ozan Cildir (L) 5-7, 6-1, 6-2; and No. 6 Alberto Casas (A) def. Alexander Regner (L) 7-5, 6-3.
In doubles, No. 1 Chris Devoize/Alexander Regner (L) upset No. 2-ranked Pablo Gor/Ignacio Hernandez (A) 8-5; No. 2 Luca Cerin/Otakar Lucak (A) def. Marc Hofer/David Korsten (L) 8-6; and No. 3 Ozan Cildir/Loic Minery (L) def. Marek Pesicka/Jan Porteset (A) 8-2.
Lander will next travel to non-conference foe Limstone on Wednesday, March 16, for a 3 o'clock match.
