SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Breshay Johnson scored 29 points and collected 14 rebounds, but Johnson C. Smith held off Lander, 81-72, in the Courtyard Classic at Converse College on Saturday afternoon.

Lander falls to 2-2 on the season, while Johnson C. Smith improves to 4-1.  

Johnson finished one point shy of tying her career high, while Mylea McKenith grabbed seven rebounds. Jessica Harris added nine points, dished a team-high six assists and finished with six steals.

Anika Jones led the Golden Bulls with 20 points, while Kendall Adams collected 10 rebounds.

The two teams combined to force 58 turnovers on the day, while the Golden Bulls outrebounded Lander, 42-35.

The Bearcats shot 24-of-65 (36.9 percent) on the day and made 5-of-23 (21.7 percent) from the three-point line. Lander was 19-of-29 (65.5 percent) from the free throw line.

Johnson C. Smith was 27-for-57 (47.4 percent) overall, but shot an impressive 6-of-11 (54.5 percent) from outside. The Golden Bulls converted 21-of-24 (87.5 percent) attempts from the chartiy stripe.

Lander concludes the month with a trip to Warren Wilson on Sunday, November 27.
