Box Score GREENWOOD – Six different Bearcats scored on Wednesday night as the Lander men's soccer team pummelled UNC Pembroke, 9-0, at Van Taylor Stadium to clinch the No. 1 seed in the Peach Belt Conference tournament and claim at least a share of the conference title.
With the win, Lander improves to 10-3 overall and 7-0 in Peach Belt Conference play. UNC Pembroke falls to 4-7, (3-4). The Bearcats assured themselves least a share of the regular season championship for the first time since 2012.
Sam Lofts opened up the scoring just 3:16 into the match, tallying his seventh goal of the season off of a Hugo Delhommelle assist.
Jamie North stretched the Bearcats' lead to 2-0 at the 13:47 mark, finding the back of the net for his third goal of the year via a Richard Bryan assist.
Connor Felstead gave the Bearcats a commanding 3-0 lead at 21:23, netting his seventh goal of the season off another assist from Bryan.
Lofts scored his eighth goal of the year, and second of the evening, off an assist from Jamie North at the 44:05 mark, giving the Bearcats a 4-0 lead.
Felstead found the back of the net once again at 48:39 off a Delhommelle assist, scoring his eighth goal of the season and second of the contest, swelling the lead to 5-0.
George Knight gave Lander a commanding 6-0 lead at the 61:16 mark, tallying his second goal of the year.
Michael Leach stretched the lead to 7-0 at 79:28, scoring his fifth goal of the season via Delhommelle's third assist of the night.
Jamie Lunn gave Lander an 8-0 lead at the 82:45 mark, connecting with Freddie Moore Hobbis for his third goal of the season.
Lunn concluded the scoring at the 89:19 mark, as he netted his second goal of the night and fourth of the season.
The nine goals scored were the most by Lander since 2004.
Lander outshot the Braves, 24-6, while both teams registered five corner kicks.
Dean Cowdroy grabbed 3 saves for Lander. Lucas Gusmao tallied four saves for UNC Pembroke, while Trenton Spigener grabbed two.
