Box Score GREENWOOD - Michael Leach scored two goals late in the second half Wednesday night to lead the No. 21-ranked Lander men's soccer team to a 3-0 upset over No. 7 Wingate in a non-conference game at Van Taylor Stadium.
In notching its fifth shutout of the season, Lander improves to 10-1 overall, while the Bulldogs slip to 10-1-2. The Bearcats will next travel to St. Augustine, Fla. to face Flagler College in a 7:30 p.m. Peach Belt Conference game on Saturday, Oct. 17.
Jamie North gave the Bearcats a quick 1-0 lead at 4:58 when he took a pass from Sam Lofts and popped it in from the left side of the goal.
Leach made it 2-0 at 84:59 after Ianis Ghachem stole the ball deep in Wingate territory and passed it to him on the right side.
Leach scored the final goal at 87:14 off a pass from North.
Lander outshot the Bulldogs, 11-10, but Wingate led in corner kicks, 8-3.
Wingate goalkeeper Pablo Jara grabbed five saves, while Lander's Barrett Nielsen had three.
