Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Lander drops road contest to Francis Marion, 2-0

FLORENCE, S.C. – The Lander men's soccer team traveled to Hartzler Field to face the Francis Marion Patriots on Wednesday night and dropped a 2-0 decision in its final non-conference match of the season. The Bearcats are now an even 2-2-2 on the year as FMU picked up its fifth win through seven games (5-1-1, 2-0 Conference Carolinas).

The Patriots' defense collected its third straight shutout, fourth of the season and didn't allow Lander a shot on net in this match. LU's closest opportunity during the second half came with three minutes left when Storm van de Werken sent a free-kick into the box. Dylan Colley got his head on it but the shot went over the crossbar.

Both of FMU's goals came in the second half, minutes apart (56th and 65th). The hosts held an 11-6 advantage in shots and manufactured seven scoring chances.

Jack Ammann saved each of the shots on-target that came his way but was replaced due to injury with 15 minutes remaining in the first half. Ionas Giovanidis got the call in his first game action with Lander and made three saves over the final 60 minutes.

LU hosts Clayton State on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. from Van Taylor Stadium.
