FLORENCE, S.C. - The No. 7-ranked Lander men's tennis team was eliminated from the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Friday morning when the Bearcats fell to No. 5 Armstrong Atlantic State University, 5-0, in the semifinal round at the Dr. Eddie Floyd Tennis Center.
Lander, the second seed, moves to 16-4 overall, while Armstrong, the third seed which advances to Saturday's championship match, improves to 16-6.
In doubles, No. 1 Jaan Kononov/Pedro Scocuglia (A) def. #11 Oscar Axelsson/Adam Jonsson (L) 8-3; No. 2 Ignacio Hernandez/Damian Okrutny (A) def. Paulo Fernandes/Vincent Verpeaux (L) 8-2; and No. 3 Luca Cerin/Pablo Gor (A) def. Samuel Poutignat/Niklas Terhorst (L) 8-3.
In singles, No. 2 Jaan Kononov (A) def. Marc Hofer (L) 6-3, 6-2; and No. 4 Pablo Gor (A) def. #43 Ristomatti Lanne (L) 6-1, 6-3.
The remainder of the singles matches were halted when the Pirates secured enough points for the win.
