GREENWOOD – The Lander men's tennis team swept all three doubles matches Thursday afternoon, but fell in five of six singles in a 5-4 loss to Georgia Gwinnett in a non-conference match at The Joe Cabri Tennis Center.
Georgia Gwinnett, the No. 5-ranked team in the NAIA, improves to 6-0, while Lander, which is No. 7 in NCAA Division II, moves to 3-2.
In singles, No. 1 Bruno Tiberti (GG) def. Vincent Verpeaux (L) 6-4, 6-2; No. 2 Mark Verryth (GG) def. Ristomatti Lanne (L) 6-2, 6-1; No. 3 Matias Hatem (GG) def. Samuel Poutignat (L) 6-4, 6-1; No. 4 Erik Moberg (GG) def. Adam Jonsson (L) 6-2, 6-3; No. 5 Marc Hofer (L) def. Connor Clements (GG) 7-6, 2-6, 6-4; and No. 6 Tony Kostadinov (GG) def. Diego Zegarra (L) 7-6, 7-6.
In doubles, No. 1 Adam Jonsson/Oscar Axelsson (L) def. Mark Verryth/Tony Kostadinov (GG) 8-3; No. 2 Paulo Fernandes/Vincent Verpeaux (L) def. Bruno Tiberti/Connor Clements (GG) 8-5; and No. 3 Samuel Poutignat/Marc Hofer (L) def. Matias Hatem/Luke Morland (GG) 8-3.
